Students in grades 5 through 9 will participate in Family Life classes. This complies with Tennessee Code Annotated 49-6-1301-1307, which mandates that our school system implement a program of Family Life instruction for students. We have endeavored to make this an age-appropriate instructional program following Tennessee's standards. Family Life classes are taught by the Guidance Counselors, Wellness teachers, and Loudon County Health Department. All students will participate in these classes unless a parent/guardian requests in writing to exempt his or her son/daughter. Parents/guardians may contact your student's principal if you choose to exempt him/her from the Family Life unit.
Students may be exempted from the Family Life unit according to T.C.A. 49-6-1305: "A parent or guardian who wishes to excuse a student from any portion of family life shall submit a request, in writing, to the student's instructor, school counselor, or principal. A parent or guardian who wishes to excuse a student from all portions of family life shall submit a request in writing to the student's principal. A student who is excused from any or all portions of family life shall not be penalized for grading purposes if the student satisfactorily performs alternative health lessons."
The Family Life curriculum and materials are available for parents/guardians to review at your student's school by appointment with the school principal. If you would like to exempt your student, please notify your student's principal by January 7, 2023. A letter is attached below for your convenience.
