The Tennessee Academic Standards provide a common set of expectations for what students will know and be able to do at the end of a grade for each subject area. Our state’s standards are rooted in the knowledge and skills students need to succeed in their post-secondary studies and/or careers.
The State Board of Education is charged with adopting the Tennessee Academic Standards. At a minimum, standards are reviewed every six years. To learn more about the standards review process, leave feedback on the revised standards, or submit questions please visit the state board’s standards review webpage.
While academic standards establish desired learning outcomes, the curriculum provides a roadmap designed to assist teachers in planning instruction to support students in reaching and exceeding our high expectations for growth and achievement. Lenoir City Schools utilizes high-quality instructional materials as the foundation in planning instruction supporting student mastery of the rigorous Tennessee Academic Standards while reflecting our unique community values. The scope and sequence for each course is developed through a collaboration among classroom teachers, instructional coaches, and professional learning partners to ensure alignment between instructional materials, local community values, and Tennessee Academic Standards. Personalized instruction supported by the highest quality aligned materials provides each student with the best opportunity to meet the expectations of the Tennessee Academic Standards approved by the State Board of Education.
